Notes for Major EWEN
Father of Richard Talbott's wife, for years served as a member of the Board of Commissioners which controlled the affairs of the Colony; at nearly every General Assembly, he was one of the representatives of his County; and twice or oftener, was Speaker of the House of Burgesses. He was Sheriff of the County, 1664-1665; his duties as an Officer of the Militia were during five years so exacting that he was obliged to decline (after the restoration of Lord Baltimore's government) the position of a Commissioner of Anne Arundel County. He was perhaps a member of the Governor's Council at the time of his death. He was survived by a widow and five children - the oldest, Elizabeth Ewen, who married Richard Talbott.
