DECATUR — Norma Fay Blickensderfer, 87, died May 27, 2013 at Fair Havens Christian Home in Decatur, IL.
Norma was born on October 13, 1925 in Bible Grove, IL, the only child of Basil and Florence Wattles of Cisco, IL. Norma married Robert Blickensderfer on May 27, 1945 in Anniston, AL while Bob was serving in the Army at Fort McClellan; he preceded her in death in 1978. Bob and Norma had four children.
Norma graduated from Cerro Gordo H.S. in 1943. She drove a school bus for the Cerro Gordo schools for many years. Norma was kind and gentle, and she always put the needs of others above her own. She always met life’s challenges with quiet strength, a positive attitude, and always saw the best in people.
Norma was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Rebekah’s, and Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church.
Norma’s survivors include son Jack Blickensderfer of Decatur, IL; daughter Sherry Seitz and her husband Ed of Pataskala, OH; son Rick Blickensderfer and his wife Renee of Dalton City, IL; and daughter Sandy Tapscott and her husband Ron of Kingwood, TX; grandson Matt Blickensderfer of Cincinnati, OH; grandson Drew Blickensderfer and his wife Candice of Terrell, NC; granddaughter Shannon Hutkai and her husband Steve of New Albany, OH; grandson Tyler and his wife Amanda of Sullivan, IL; grandson Nick of Dalton City, IL; grandson Ryan of Kingwood, TX; and six great-grandchildren, including newborn twins.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bob.
Visitation will be held at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home on Oakland Avenue in Decatur, IL, Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 3:30 until 7:00 p.m., with funeral services to follow at 7:30 p.m. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 30, in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, IL. Memorials may be made to Fair Havens Christian Home Activity Fund or Safe Haven Hospice, 628 ½ Broadway, Lincoln, IL 62656.
The family would like to thank Fair Havens Christian Staff and Safe Haven Hospice for their loving care given to Norma during her journey.
