Notes for James COPPOCK
Who are these Coppocks? The Monroe Township Coppocks were among several Coppocks and many other Quakers that made their way from the Newberry area of South Carolina to Ohio in the first decade of the 19th century. James Coppock and wife Hannah (Pugh) Coppock reportedly arrived in Ohio with son Moses in 1806. Moses Coppock married Lydia Jay soon after arriving, and they eventually had eight children: Elizabeth, Hannah, James, Samuel, Jane, Rebeckah, John and Mary. Samuel purchased land in 1856 near where he was born 39 years earlier, and he and wife Delana (Blickenstaff) Coppock built the Homestead there. They had six children: Moses A., Jacob, John Wesley, Mary, Elias and Elizabeth. The Homestead was eventually purchased by John Wesley and wife Mary (Heikes) Coppock. They also had six children; Chester, Iva D., Harley, Claude, Xury and Hazel. Harley and wife Olive (Pearson) Coppock bought the Homestead in 1920, and eventually passed it on to their youngest son in 1943. The last Coppock living at the Homestead died in early 2000, and the farm was sold in July, 2001.
