When he was eight years old, there was an influenza epidemic. Hattie was a nurse, and she took care of the three kids (along with other children in the town). After Billy and Betty died from the disease, Hattie took Glenn back to Los Angeles to nurse him to health.

Graduated from Ohio State University after WWII as a metalurgical engineer.
