Leander was in the U.S. Army and fought in the Spanish American War. He drank poison water and became very sick and returned home. He was out of his head at times. They bought a lot of oysters for him to eat. He lived a few months and passed away at the age of 26 years old. (text obtained from Theron and Betty Schaper)
