Notes for Reverend Posey Greene LESTER
Posey and Emmette settled in the town of Floyd in VA.

Posey was perhaps the most noted of any of the Lesters in this part of the country. He was born March 12, 1850, and received a limited education in the common schools. At the age of twenty-three he entered the ministry of the Primitive Baptist Church and was one of the most extensively known of its ministers. He traveled and preached in about twenty-one states and in Ontario, Canada, covering as much as thirteen thousand miles in a single year. During these years he served as pastor in Kentucky and Virginia, and later was pastor of a large church in the city of Roanoke. There he resided during the last years of his life. He was Moderator of the New River District Primitive Baptist Association, which numbered twenty-six churches and twenty-two ministers, and about 2000 members. For forty years he was associate editor, and was editor-in-chief of 'Zions Landmark', a leading church paper for the Primitive Baptists, published at Wilson, North Carolina. In 1888 he was elected to represent the Fifth District of Virginia in the Congress of the United States. He was reelected for a second term, but refused a third nomination, preferring to devote himself to his church work. (text obtained from "Floyd Co: A History of It's People & Places" By: Amos D.
