Notes for Johann KRAUSE
Surry Co. will book I:34a. Bill of sale from John Krouse, blacksmith, to Henry Shore for £15:17 all blacksmith tools now in posession of John Krouse until Krouse can make payment. 11 Nov. 1774. Wit: Henry Spenhour Sr. Rec. Feb. Ct. 1775. This John Krouse?

Listed among the men resident in Salem, 1775-1783 (Records 4:1922); birth year there given as 1742 rather than 1743, but presumably the same person? Or is he the John Krause included on list of men resident in Wachovia 1775-1783, "scattered on farms, tax list 1780", Records 4:1925?

Records 4:1571, Oct. 9, 1780: Andreas Volk's son came for the doctor for his brother-in-law Johann Krause, who was shot in the leg yesterday while standing guard at Richmond, which was again visited by a strong party of Tories under Gideon Wright. The bullet had remained in his limb; Joseph Dixon was sent to bind up the wound. The Tories had expressed sympathy for the injured man, saying the ball had not been meant for him but for some one else, and so on. What consequences this may have remains to be seen.

4:1614. Feb. 11, 1780, Bethabara. Johannes Krause was here asking for the baptism of his child, so Br. Lorenz went thither today, and held a service in his house. The child received the name Andreas; sponsors were George and Maria Schulz, and the elder Andreas Volk. About fifty persons were present, half of them children, for the schoolmaster of that neighborhood came, bringing the school.

5:2137. April 10, 1786. Br. Beck gave in the names of the friends near Bethania who wish to be received into the Society, namely, John and Anna Maria Krause and their two daughters, Margaretha and Maria; Johann and Maria Volk; Jacob and Johanna Volz; and the unmarried Andreas Volk. 5:2156 records that they were admitted to the Bethania society.
