Blickensderfer typewriters, manufactured by the Blickensderfer Manufacturing Company of Stamford, CT, boasted many modern features, such as replaceable type elements (later copied by IBM in their well-known Selectric series of typewriters) and a "scientific" keyboard, which was an attempt to improve upon the efficiency of the "QWERTY" keyboard arrangement.
