Notes for Hansine Louise BENDIKSEN
Louise sailed on the Samaria from Liverpool, England, to Boston, Massachusetts, arriving in the U.S. on November 3, 1924, on her way to San Pedro, CA. She traveled with her brother, Ole, who was also on his way to San Pedro.
Her grandfather was a Lutheran minister. Raised in Bergen, Norway, where she was a citizen.
She and Jens were introduced by a cousin, whose wife, Vila B. Sorensen, ran a boarding house in Hollywood, CA. Among her boarders, a young Walt Disney.
As a child, Louise was very sick, to the point of being bedridden. The medicine she was given caused some of her teeth to fall out, and the rest of her teeth were then removed without anesthesia. Louise's mother refused to buy her a set of false teeth, so, at the age of fourteen, she worked to create a woman's trousseau in order to earn enough to buy a set of false teeth.
