J. L. Fuelling Dead

Well-known Jefferson County resident dies at home near Kent

Mr. J. L. Fuelling, 72, a well-known resident of Jefferson County died at his home near Kent early this morning of a heart ailment. He had been ill about seven weeks.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he spent a considerable part of his life in Mexico where he had business interests. He returned to this country ten years ago and since that time has made his home at his farm near Kent.

Mr. Fuelling was a man of unusual intellect and character and made a place for himself in those neighborhoods and enterprises in which he was thrown.

In Mexico as the head of large sugar interests, he was a leader in the community and highly respected in commercial and civic circles and deeply loved by those in his employ.

Back in America, he took up farming and dairying in a large and progressive way. With high ideals he built up model establishments against the declining business of the past few years and the struggles with nature that characterized farming during the droughts of 1932 and again this year.

Jefferson County people have suffered a severe loss in the death of Mr. Fuelling. He was an ever-present factor in improving life and living for all those with whom he came in contact.

Surviving besides his wife, Ora, are two brothers, Edward and Paul of California and two sisters, Sophia and Helen Fuelling also of California. Three nieces, Mrs. C. M. Wilbur of Washington, D. C., Miss Elizabeth N. Edson of New York, and Miss Margaret Edson at home also survive.

Funeral services will be private.
