Lige and Mattie Davis lived in Anson, where all their children were born, until they moved to Midland in 1916. He was in the mercantile business in Anson and was interested in cattle raising and trading. In Midland he devoted his time to the cattle business. His sudden death at 54 followed a strenuous trip in severe weather to check on cattle. He was extremely genial and made friends wherever he went. Stories of the life of the family in the sparsely settled section where they lived are reminiscent of the pioneer days on early ranches in western Texas when Harrison and Nancy Davis followed the frontier there.
