Notes for Uriah Smith ARNOLD
Sarah and Uriah Arnold had been married less than a year when the group of related families moved from Ripley Co, Missouri, to Hood Co, Texas, by wagon train. Their oldest child was born the fall after they were settled in their new home. They lost their next two children, Frankie, who died in infancy, and Mary, who lived to be about two years old. They followed the Harrison Davis family in moving to Jones County in 1887. They bought land near the Davis section and built a home. Later, they bought the farm where they spent the rest of their lives and where their daughter Irene Glenn now lives. They were a thrifty, industrious couple, always providing well for their family. They were active in the rural community and, especially, in the Fairview Church on the corner of their land. Both are buried in the graveyard adjoining the church. One of the first graves in this churchyard was that of Phoebe Pace Davis, mother of Harrison Davis, who died in 1892.
